Aldís Fjóla, the Reykjavík-based artist hailing from the tranquil town of Borgarfjörður eystra in Iceland, unveils a musical journey shaped by the rich lineage of rock. Steeped in the influential sounds of 90s rock, inspired by bands like Skunk Anansie, Radiohead, and Cranberries, Aldís has artfully navigated the intricate landscapes of the genre, drawing from the diverse facets that make it timeless. Her upbringing on a farm, surrounded by nature, adds another layer to her art, infusing it with inspiration from the diverse channels of her environment.
Having made her debut in 2018 with the single “SLIP AWAY”, Aldís continued to captivate audiences, leading to the release of her debut album, Shadows, in 2020. Building on her musical journey, she followed up with more singles and the EP Pipedreams. Now, she introduces her latest work, the single “Quiet the Storm”.
Originally crafted by her bandmate and close friend, Halldór Sveinsson, Aldís sought his blessing to pen lyrics and record the song, with Sveinsson contributing piano and violin parts. Departing from her typical rock-infused sound, “Quiet the Storm” takes Aldís Fjóla into the realm of cinematic orchestral pop music. The track is a stunning display of timeless beauty, featuring dazzling instrumentation, captivating melodic writing, and truly breathtaking vocal leads.
The song unfolds with the delicate flutter of piano tones, creating a canvas for Aldís to weave her alluring vocal leads. Subtle touches of violin add an elegant layer, enhancing the depth of the composition. The lyrics pay homage to steadfast friends who provide solace in silence, stand tall in moments of brokenness, and discern the unspoken behind the facade.
“Quiet the Storm” is a graceful composition that speaks directly to the heart with its enduring melody and enchanting performance. The production and mixing, skillfully handled by Stefan Örn Gunnlaugsson in Studio Bambus, coupled with Sigurdór Guðmundsson’s mastering at Skonrokk Mastering, ensure a sonic experience that does justice to the composition. The result is a shining sound that complements the song’s emotional depth, making Aldís Fjóla’s latest release a truly remarkable and immersive musical experience.
