Concluding a prolific year that began with “Stargazer” and a tour with Paul Brady, Irish singer-songwriter Davie Furey presents his latest single, “The Rose of Bohermeen”. This seasonal love song, featuring verses by playwright Richard Ball, is a delightful collaboration that Furey navigates with both vocals and acoustic rhythm guitars. The song, recorded at JAM Studies and produced by Martin Quinn, encapsulates Furey’s artistry and storytelling finesse. Ball shares the personal inspiration behind the lyrics, and Furey, acknowledging the surprise and joy in working on a non-self-written song, expresses gratitude for the collaboration. The melodic tapestry, enriched by Quinn’s instrumental contributions, stands as a testament to Furey’s ability to breathe life into poignant narratives through music.

Executed with precision, the production, mixing, and mastering by Martin Quinn in JAM Studies form the backbone of this auditory endeavor. Davie Furey’s signature haunting melody, intertwined with the eloquent verses crafted by Bohermeen-born playwright Richard Ball, manifests into a performance that seamlessly aligns with the high expectations synonymous with the musician and songwriter.

In discussing the genesis of the new single, Davie articulates, “This song came as a complete surprise to me. I have never recorded a song I haven’t written, so to be able to work on ‘The Rose of Bohermeen’ with my former English teacher, Richie Ball, was a great joy. I was enthused by the story behind the lyrics, and it was a great privilege to be able to blend Richie’s beautiful, gentle lyrics to music”.

Rich in narrative, playwright Richard Ball expounds, “The Rose of Bohermeen recalls an aunt I never knew who used to sing with her younger brother, my dad, at Christmas midnight mass many years ago. It’s the only story he ever told of her. She died at seventeen. I am a huge admirer of Davie’s work, so I was delighted that he not only liked the words but agreed to put them to music and record the song. He has worked his magic here. I am more than grateful”.

In this melodic tapestry, Davie Furey takes center stage, not only as the lead vocalist but also as the maestro wielding the acoustic rhythm guitars. Martin Quinn complements the composition with his instrumental prowess, handling the bass, electric guitar, Spanish guitar, and piano. “The Rose of Bohermeen” stands as a testament to Furey’s artistry and his ability to breathe life into poignant narratives through the medium of music.
