Berlin-based producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Calcou, deeply rooted in jazz and funk, seamlessly blends his diverse musical influences into a unique sonic experience. Trained in acoustic music with a foundation in classical composition and arrangement, Calcou channels his musical prowess into various projects, including his contemporary jazz band, White Noise Trio. However, it was his foray into electronic music that ignited his passion for production and challenged his traditional approach to music composition.
Led by sound and vibe rather than theory and harmony, Calcou embarked on producing electronic tracks, fusing ambiances, moods, and shapes to create a distinct sound characterized by an organic, handmade touch. His upcoming EP, “Places”, unveils a glimpse of Calcou’s musical journey, with the second single, “Above”, offering a taste of his deep-grooving downtempo style. The track unfolds as an atmospheric and rhythmic composition, featuring a snapping beat, shimmery bells, a driving legato bass, and pulsating staccato synth lines. “Above” captures the essence of space exploration, with Calcou commenting, “This one is mainly about exploring space and the different dimensions it has to offer to music”.
